The rationale behind this dragnet intrusion, codenamed Hemisphere, is to find suspicious links between people with “burner” phones (prepaid mobile phones easy to buy, use, and quickly dispose of), which are popular with drug dealers. The secret … Read more on Open Democracy

Marriage as Sacrament, and Gay Marriage
I apologize that the words go by excessively fast at some points. You may find that you need to pause every now and then.
Your? first source doesn’t bother with anything but perception and bigotry as health problems…
Perhaps so…I’ve done a little reading into this matter, but am not well enough informed on it to engage in a debate on the subject. However, illegality can only affect the fostering of illegal drug markets and social situations. It cannot affect the INTERNAL properties of drugs or the effect they have on the human? mind and body. My point is that while encompassing situations can exacerbate the problem, this does not make for an argument that the behavior itself is healthy or okay.
A LOT? of the problems with drug abuse are linked directly with the fact that it is illegal…
Lastly, even if you attribute depression and suicide to bullying, you still have to deal with higher rates of STDs, split-ups and their accompanying emotional burden, physical harm, etc., none of which have anything to do with what OTHER people think about someone’s sexual actions and lifestyles. The reasonable conclusion is that? unnatural sexual acts are dangerous and harmful in themselves. If you are going to attribute these to external factors such as bullying, the burden of proof is on you.
Furthermore, we are not treating them “less fairly” but saying that they are not entitled to the specific benefits of a marriage, which is defined as the union between a man and a woman and designed for the good of society. All of the benefits homosexual individuals claim to seek via marriage — health care? proxies, inheritances, etc — could be obtained through other avenues.
So you’re saying that bullying makes them be promiscuous with complete strangers? Come on now…
However, I’m willing to? admit that violence and hatred toward homosexuals does contribute to these problems. Regardless of what you may think of Catholics, we do deplore such things entirely. However, drug addicts are also ostracized, but are we going to say that that is the sole cause of their many mental and physical ailments, and that the behavior itself has nothing to do with it?
Well…checked the? first one. It talks about special problems for lesbians that are mostly due to bigotry. This is the logic, “We need to keep women from becoming lesbians because people like me treat them less fairly”…
That is why I asked for the studies. You have no point…
Here are the citations:
Laura Dean et al., “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Health: Findings and Concerns,” Journal of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association 4, no. 3 (2000): 101-51.
A. P. Bell and M. S. Weinberg, Homosexualities: A Study of Diversity Among Men and Women (New York: Simon and Schuster, 1978).
J. B. Lehmann, C. U. Lehmann, and P. J. Kelly, “Development and Health Care Needs? of Lesbians,” Journal of Women’s Health 7 (1998) 379-88.
I’d LOVE to see one of those? “studies”…
Furthermore, these promiscuous activities are often with complete strangers. lesbians share their gay male counterparts’ propensity for drug abuse, suicide and psychiatric disorders.
As for heterosexual sex, STDs are only a threat if one or more of the partners have been “sleeping around.” Clearly, this is a problem in the gay? community.
Lesbians are at lower risk of STDs than gay males because, generally speaking, they tend not to be as promiscuous. But that does not make lesbian partnerships any more desirable as a lifestyle. Research shows that lesbian relationships, like male homosexual relationships, are often not exclusive, and that promiscuity in the lesbian community is? greater than promiscuity among heterosexual women. And I’m running out of room, so I’ll continue this in the next post…
Because the disease and trauma associated with male homosexuality and heterosexuality is? not a problem with lesbianism.
As I stated, your dishonesty is showing…
“If the church? were merely worried about health issues, they’d be advocating against male homosexuality only.”
Why is that?
If the church were merely worried about health issues, they’d be advocating against male homosexuality only (and that’s pushing? the definition of a “health issue”). You should be more honest…
If what you’re saying is true, than any person or group of people that have a genuine belief on a given matter and are trying to influence legislation accordingly — for? example, environmental groups who want to have laws passed that curtail pollution — can be accused of trying to control the lives of everyone in a totalitarian fashion.
The attempt to affect laws and to persuade minds and hearts with regard to? the truth of a certain claim and/or the evident healthy or unhealthy nature of certain practices is not the same as coercing laws, which would mean forcing them into existence.
You are attempting to affect laws. That, by? anyone’s definition, is trying to control EVERYONE’S lives…
First of all, silverware is a supplement to nature, not an un-natural phenomenon. As for abstinence, it is not against nature; it? is simply maintaining order within nature. Finally, there is a huge difference between controlling everybody’s life and making one’s voice heard in order to defend human dignity and uphold that which contributes to the well-being of society.

Abstinence is also against nature…so is silverware. This is why people don’t respect the church: ? They want to control EVERYBODY’S life, not just those of their followers…
As for cohabitation, it is foolish to think that people deserve to reap the BENEFITS of marriage without the COMMITMENT of marriage. This, in a similar fashion, is dangerous to the fabric of our society.?
It has nothing to do with giving political power to the Church; it’s about safeguarding what has proven to be objectively good for societies. A civil union between gay partners is, for all intents and purposes, the social equivalent of gay marriage, and therefore still amounts to an attempt to modify the definition of marriage. Neither the Church nor the state? has the right to do that. It is against both nature and common sense.
So, you are for the church…sorry, YOUR church, intruding on secular issues such as dependency and cohabitation? Your philosophy is probably better followed in a country? like Iran where religion is part of the government rather than separate…
