Medical marijuana became legal in the District in 2010 after the Democrat-controlled Congress passed a D.C Council bill that allows the city to set up as many as eight dispensaries where chronically ill patients can purchase the drug.

The law allows patients with cancer, glaucoma, HIV/AIDS and other chronic ailments can possess up to four ounces of the drug.

Last Wednesday, Mayor Vincent Gray approved the final regulations on the licensing, distribution, and use of medical marijuana in the District.
The full regulations (and particular rules) will be published officially on April 15
