Does This Sound Like a Possible Drug Addiction?
Question by ?: Does this sound like a possible drug addiction?
I used to date this guy. He’s now 20 years old.
A year ago, when we dated, he was tan, very fit, had muscles, had perfectly clear skin, got his hair cut all the time, was clean cut, smelled good. He was hot. He never went to parties or clubs back then but he did stay up late.
I just saw him after a year of not seeing each other. He looked really bad. He was really pale (it’s hot where we live), he looked boney, he doesn’t shave his face anymore, his hair is a long and dirty mess, his face is broken out in acne, bags under his eyes, and doesn’t seem to be care about hygeine.
He now parties and goes to clubs all the time so I don’t know if that has anything to do with it.
He’s never done drugs and I’m pretty sure that he never would but he does drink.
It’s like he doesn’t care about his appearance AT ALL anymore when he used to be finicky.
Does that sound like a possible drug addiction?
Yeah, I agree. I do think it’s strange that goes to nice clubs all the time when he doesn’t care about his appearance at all when people usually try to look as good as possible when going to clubs

Yep. He’s gonna die.
this is discrimination! just because he’s clearly a heroin addict doesn’t mean he is undeserving and love and respect.
don’t hate the playa, hate the game. hate the drug dealer that supplies, not the brotha that buys.
ask not what these drugs are doing to him, ask what they can do for you.
in conclusion, penis.
if your sure for a fact that he’s never ever done any sort of illegal drugs before then it probably won’t be an addiction. Males that end up with an addiction 8/10 times have a history of occasional use in their past somewhere such as a crack addict will have smoked weed at parties in high school or something. It’s rare that he would develope such a strong drug addiction that you could see it physically after only one year with no history of ever using drugs before said year.
you did mention that he drank though have you ever considered an alcohol addiction although again it’s rare that you would be able to see it physically after only one year, did you mention he drank because he used to drink a lot more than what you would consider normal?
my guess would be that he is depressed and so got caught up in a clubbing life style that he can loose himself in for a few hours a night at the weekend, this would explain his bad complexion and figure as depression often comes with periods of not eating properly, add to that drinking, not drinking enough water and staying inside the house, not getting out in the sun and not doing any physical activity would explain his change in appearance. Depression also come with low self esteem which would explain why he no longer even cares about his appearance. Perhaps something has happened with in the past year or perhaps he has had issues for a while and low self esteem was why he was so finicky before and it was an underlying side or problem he never showed to you before, you did mention he stayed up late insombnia is something else that is an early sign of mental issues.
It sounds to me though like you are too distant from this guy to help him now after not having been in contact and in a year and you don’t know what has happened in the past year. There is always a chance something in his life has changed and so has he. I wouldn’t medal or do anything about your presumptions or any presumptions made by us yahoo answerers
It is always possible. It only takes trying something once to realize you enjoy something before it becomes a habit. Also the fact that he goes to clubs is alarming because usually people like to look there best when going out like that. He could just be depressed or like someone said before, a change of life views. The only way to know is talk to him if you really care about this persons well being and dont come to any conclusions before being sure. Maybe he has come down with some other kind of physical illness also?
There’s really no way to know for certain, short of observing him in the act or simply asking him, but, yes, the behaviors you describe could indicate possible heavy drug use/addiction or even alcoholism (you say he drinks). People controlled by an all-consuming addiction generally stop caring caring about their appearance, and drug-seeking activities replace grooming habits.
Another possibility is that this guy is depressed. People suffering from severe depression often display poor grooming habits.
That said, though, the behaviors you describe could possibly arise from harmless things such as peer influence.
