Does Outpatient Drug Treatment Work?
Question by A.B.E.: Does outpatient drug treatment work?
I cannot take the time off of work to go to inpatient rehab and I think I need something a little more intensive than Narcotics Anonymous meetings. For the record I am currently not using but I am very weak right now and do NOT want to relapse. Thanks!

You could contact your county health dept and also LGBT center to see what other outpatient programs are available in your area.

I’ve done outpatient work a few times, though not for drug addiction but psychiatric reasons. There were always people suffering from addictions there, though, and it seemed as if they were thankful for the help.
You can set it up to fit your schedule, so it is more intensive than NA but you don’t have to miss any work.
If you can’t miss work to go in fulltime, thought need something more than the weekly meetings you should definitely try out an outpatient program.
It’s especially helpful if your insurance covers it… if you have insurance they will usually cover a few weeks of it at no cost. If you don’t have insurance that covers it, most outpatient programs have payment plans to help out those in need.
LGBT Center would be a good start, but I don’t know what is available where you live.
Do some investigation about what services you choose, as they are not all the same. By that, I mean some run poor programs for the money. Make sure they have a good program run by other recovering addicts who are genuinely concerned for your well being.
