Focus on the basic definition of addiction: it’s about the compulsive behaviour and the negative impacts it has on people’s lives. Basically people choose the same behaviour (drinking, using drugs, eating a lot of food, having a lot of sex, using the internet), regardless of the negative things that happen in their lives. Regardless of the “drug,” many people with addictions issues experience similar negative effects, like loss of relationships, financial troubles, etc. Regardless of the “drug” many people with addictions deny they have a problem.
